Hello all KDGC Members!
It's with lots of excitement and a million butterflies in my stomach that I share with you the KDGC's collaboration with The City of Kamloops, Tourism Kamloops, Kamloops Sports Council and Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc to submit a bid to the PDGA for the 2027 Masters World Championships. This is an Amateur/Pro PDGA Major that saw just shy of 900 athletes this July in Emporia Kansas and the same in 2023 in Flagstaff, AZ. This would be the biggest PDGA tournament in Canadian history…and we're ready for it!
This all unfolded quickly, with the City approaching Thomas and I during TCO this year to "wonder what else could be done" once they saw the success of our third A Tier in a row. All involved met just over two weeks ago and again this week to confirm the details and get planning started, with a bid deadline of October 1 st . This is going to be the craziest 10 days of my life but after several conversations with Brian Hoeniger of PDGA Canada over the weekend at Canadians in Clearwater I gained valuable insight and confidence in what we are planning to highlight and share in our bid. I feel confident we are going to be a viable and the PDGA will see the brilliance of bringing the world to Kamloops.
I'm honoured and humbled to be the Tournament Director named on this bid, as asked by the City and the responsibility as well as the amount of expectation this brings is not lost on me and I'm more than ready to take this on! So, please put all the good vibes out there and let's manifest this! If we are successful, it would be the first time in 40 years a PDGA Major is held in Canada. The last time was in 1987 for The PDGA Worlds in Toronto.
Let's GOOOOOO!
